The title of this post is the word picture for the Sabian Symbol for “25Can” which is America’s natal Mercury degree. When Alberto Gonzales announced his resignation this morning, 10:32 am edt, “25Can” was at MC, the top of the chart, the Goal/Aspirations/Career/Public Status Point in any chart. And Mercury rules, of course, communications and announcements.

There was a YOD pattern (Finger of God; special task or purpose; crisis) pointing to this MC and the US Mercury. (What does this mean? Follow the link given below.)

Using Dr. Marc Edmund Jones’ The Sabian Symbols in Astrology, we see that this degree has DESTINY as its keyword.

To quote Dr. Jones:

“This is a symbol of the irrevocability of man’s obligation to the reality of which he is a part, with the emphasis on his capacities of leadership as a revelation of racial stewardship on the more personal or spiritual side.

Positive: some dramatic manifestation of genius vital to the general welfare of man;

Negative/shadow side: a tendency to unwarranted presumption if not outright megalomania.

In Gonzales’ statement he mentioned that public service is “noble and honorable”–but not if you don’t perform them in that way, Gonzo. The word, sullied, comes to mind.

And the White House kept this quiet through the weekend for AG gave GB his letter of resignation on Friday. Or at least they put their noggins together and decided that AG’s resignation was necessary to save what’s left of the Bush-Cheney trainwreck.

The word picture is the actual Symbol, of course, and the Jones version of this word picture is” “A dark shadow or mantle thrown suddenly over the right shoulder.”

Tomorrow’s Lunar Eclipse is a New Moon in Pisces, you know! A new cycle of activity begins yet a Lunar Eclipse reflects things that are hidden–and in Washington they often indicate things that take place undercover and which may or may not come to light–not if they can help it.

And there is that Sep 11 Solar Eclipse soon to come. Solar Eclipses tend to bring events while Lunar Eclipses tend to occur more on an inner level.

Perhaps the criticisms of Gonzales’ character chipped away at his Leonine vanity after all.
