Senator Robert Byrd: longest serving senator
As you’ve heard, Senator Robert Byrd, longest serving senator in US history has decided to step down from the chairmanship of the powerful money-spreading Senate Appropriations Committee, see:

Born in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina on November 20, 1917, Byrd, whose birth name is Sales, lost his mother early in the 1918 Flu Pandemic which devastated this country.
The entire 24 hour period of his birth date has an Aquarian Moon so with Byrd’s Sun in Scorpio we may wish to consider his Sun-Moon blend for a smidge of insight in this venerable Democratic West Virginian senator who was first sworn in on January 3, 1959…marking fifty years of national service when Congress reconvenes on Jan 3, 2009!
You may remember the senator for his stirring 2003 speech on the floor just before headstrong Bush-Cheney led America into their ill-fated invasion of Iraq. Byrd spoke against, John McCain then stood up and shilled for Bush and Cheney (his masters, one assumes.)
Sun Sco-Moon AQ is a Water-Air blend which gives a powerful intellect and radically independent views. There is loyalty and a willfulness to the personality, with a magnetic effect on others.
Passionately dispassionate, this combo indicates one who is a law unto himself with a conscience which has often sent him into the world to work for an all-consuming cause. Truth is pursued with intensity and total dedication. Here is a real need to achieve and a solid ego yet there are deep feelings lurking along with a need for friendship which may lie hidden under the seriousness.
Politics is a perfect profession for this blend with its capacity for regenerating social structures. This is a ‘see what needs doing and do it’ kind of man who never forgets the tragedy vs comedy aspect of life. An excellent troubleshooter, this blend combines sheer survival instinct with aspirations for nobility.
A true enigma to loved ones, Sun Sco-Moon AQ blows hot and cold – interested one minute, detached the next. Intellectual rapport is important in relationships but sharing all one’s deep feelings is not on the menu which highlights the classic ‘freedom-closeness’ issue which must be dealt with.
‘Images for Integration: A hovering hawk surveys the world, at one with nature…An exotic moth emerges from his chrysalis, in perfect form, a specimen of the sublimity of nature’s intelligence.’ (‘Sun Sign-Moon Sign’ by Chas & Suzy Harvey.)
Byrd’s unwillingness to accept easy answers has stood him well in Washington politics, along with his sharp sense of humor and exacting self-honesty. Honesty? Yes, that makes Byrd a rare bird in our nation’s capital and things won’t be the same when he eventually hangs up his spurs for good.
Personally I especially appreciated the above-mentioned speech meant to keep us from illegally and tragically invading Iraq – I was crying as he spoke. No, it didn’t stop Cheney’s 1% Gang who were hell-bent on war profits and imperialism, but Senator Byrd said things that needed saying that day.
And so I say, Bravo! for our longest-serving senator in US history for speaking up when others cowered silently in their pseudo-patriotism and allowing America to be lied into committing the abomination of war.
